Homicide on the Rise: The Resurgence of Homicide in Urban America?
The incidence and characteristics of lethal violence have undergone change over time. Novel types of homicide have appeared or increased in frequency, homicide clearance rates have declined dramatically, and new data sources on homicide have become available. Recently homicide rates have reportedly increased dramatically in several large cities, while remaining stable in others. Police homicides have also received intense national focus. This year’s annual meeting of the Homicide Research Working Group invites research highlighting current issues in homicide research and challenges facing practitioners tasked with responding to homicide in the 21st century. Topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited to characteristics of homicide victims, offenders, and incidents; methodological approaches for studying homicide in the 21st century; and development of future research agendas.

This year’s HRWG meeting will be held at the beautiful Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater, Florida. A great rate of $158 for a single or double room has been negotiated, and no additional resort fee will be charged. Rooms at this rate will be available three days before and after the dates of the meeting.

A call for presentations and room reservation information will be sent in October 2017.
